Idk if it is Ct Coaches are allowed to coach in there kids in the off season, we can't in mass and is a big disadvantage, that rule needs to change.

It did.

No need to give out medals to 7th and 8th placers, just let them wrestle. Most 4-place tourneys don't give a medal or a ribbon to the 4th Place wrestler.

The only tournament I know that doesn't give out medals to 4th is a couple western mass ones. Lowell Holidays gives out awards to top 8. I'm sure if Bossi probably the most old school person of all time can give out awards to top 8 the rest of us can too.

It's pretty hard to place 8th at New Englands. It's got nothing to do with participation awards. The 8th place finisher at NE's is a damn good wrestler. Same at the Lowell Holidays. There's not a coach in New England that would not want the 8th best wrestler in New England on their team. You're nuts if you don't think a medal/award is necessary.

From what I've heard the Connecticut rules are pretty strict, also.

There's about 420 teams in New England. I think that awarding the top 7/8 kids out of that # of teams isn't watering it down to much.

All I am saying is that we shouldn't let the cost of getting a 7th Place and an 8th Place medal prevent us from letting those wrestlers compete for 7th Place, which is still an excellent accomplishment at this NE level. The refs are there already and are getting paid by the day, so there should be no extra cost for refs. The 7th/8th bout can take place along with the other placement bouts, so no extra time is needed.

Trying to answer all the objections for reasons why the 7/8 bout should NOT take place. Let's do it!

Totally agree, top 8 in NE is not a small accomplishment. The Lowell Holidays used to only be top 4, it's now expanded. Anyone think Bossi is a "participation award" guy? NCAAs give out too 8 too.

Oh, MA needs to step up its game according to CT. The gauntlet has unintentionally been thrown down 😉:

7 and 8 in New England are typically elite wrestlers and should be recognized. We do it in MA at the divisional states and All States as qualifiers, but also because the kids wrestling in that match are great wrestlers who deserve some recognition.

Maple Grove - First let me say that I think recognizing these wrestlers is well worth the extra cost. With that said, refs are paid by the match at these tournaments, so there would be a (minor) additional cost ($82 total) for this round. Just saying in the interest of having all info out there for decisions to be made.
