It would appear to be. Looks like first match was a forfeit and he won one before a second loss. It would not be fair to speculate as to why he wrestled this weight, but kudos to him for competing and trying to get exposure.

The jump that Fritz had from last year to this year is the biggiest jump i have ever seen from a returning allstate finalist, beating out Flannery and Kenny Anderson.. just my opinion

They both wrestled 160,
Barreiro from Pinkerton who won New Englands at 195, won the NHSCA nationals at 170.

I don't believe Hughes went with the new and improved Fritz this year. As others have said on this thread, Fritz's improvement year over year is off the charts.

Fritz majored in convincing fashion the kid who beat Hughes at New England's this year. Generally, Fritz did far better against common opponents.

I think this year's Fritz would beat either Viruet or Hughes. Of course we will never know for sure .

So are you saying that Fritz would have won nationals this year, if he had gone?

I think Fritz filled out the way real well and agree with what someone else had said about Hughes looking almost small for 170 but I feel like it was his tournament to loose. I think it's hard to say that this years Fritz would beat viruet or Hughes seeing how he has one win and numerous losses to Hughes and I'm not sure if he has a win ov Viruet. Not trying to knock Fritz at all just think that's a hard statement to say, I would love to see all three meet up at some point in college as they are all going D1 and I believe they are all dedicated hard working young men.

Title of this thread:
"MA kids attending NHSCA in VA Beach this weekend"

So whats the discussion of Fritz for? Woulda coulda shoulda. Did not participate at NHSCA this year. Why take away from what those Mass, CT, Maine, NH etc kids did with chatter of those who didnt attend. Not a Mass fan, live in CT but Hughes did very well. I think he wrestled a little too conservative against Falbo but probably still would have lost. Im going to go out on a limb and say that Falbo would beat Viruet. Not just on the basis that Falbo beat Hughes (who beat Viruet this weekend) but watching all three of them wrestle I think Falbo is solid in most positions and has a very mature wrestling style for a sophomore. Should do well as a 4x CT State Champ. Viruet is strong and persistent. His persistence is what stands out most. Didnt see any extravagant wrestling out of him though. Does a lot of blast doubles. Hughes more technical. Butterbrodt had a good showing. Although he looked content with losing to Myers, wished he had been more aggressive in that last minute. Good year for CT Wrestling. Kevin Jack (NC State) getting to the semi finals and losing to Stieber. Putting two finalists in NHSCA, one National Champion and 10 All Americans.
