The Hargers came from Ohio and then went back there as i understand it...little Harger wrestled for Phil Moricone I believe up at the Salem NH Boys and Girls Club...old and very good program...They lived in Chelmsford for several years...I would say the two brothers were a mixture of NE and Ohio wrestling...The older wrested at Maryland

That it was, that it was egohanjames, totally heartbreaking. So wasn't Avery's match, two OTs! It is ok though, Vic is only a junior and if he wrestles back hard he might get Edinboro as high as 3rd in the Team. Kevin Jack and Avery at the very least will get 6th and both are back next year, so I am looking forward to watching that in NYC live, unless I pass out of course. That has happened under the vile influence of other MVC folk before, but I will be on the alert this time....

too bad the Realbouto match was controversal it may of put Edinboro in a better place, Trophies are only awarded to top 3 teams. What most don't realize Edinboro is a small D2 School with exception of Wrestling which is D1. there is a lot of sour grapes on other forums because they look to finish higher then PSU. Flynn and his crew do a great job. Fritz H is headed to a great place.

as far as I know the Hargers lived in Chelmsford until 2010 them moved to Ohio. Kyle was a standout at Brooks Schools. Kye and Peirce both wrestled for Salem BG Club for many years

Congrat's to Vic Avery, #13 seed and a 3rd place finish. Also to Kevin Jack, unseeded to fifth. Great job by both guys.

No, MA has had a lot, not a lot in comparison to the big states, but a lot. I work for one of them, 3x D1 3rd placer and still holds record for most wins at Lehigh if I remember right.

Massachusetts now has 13 D-I All-Americans, the last in 2008. There have been one 3x and two 2x All-Americans. Colin Kilrain was the three time All-American from Braintree.

Super job representing NE, by Boyle, Jack and Avery. Vic was right there, inches from an NCAA final, NICE JOB!! Kevin has plenty of upside only being a freshmen.

Why hate on Massachusetts accomplishments nb135? Focus on making MA wrestling better not just being the Statler/Waldorf of this site crapping on everything.

Are you sure it's just 13? Are you including the D2&D3 guys who placed at D1s and even won the D1s?

If the number of D1 AAs were distributed evenly among the states based solely on population MA would have about 1.5 every season. I'm basing that on rough population estimates of 6M (Mass) and 300M (US). How is it possible that we have so much fewer than that? Is it the kids, the coaching, something else?

And before the easily offended jump all over me...chill out. I'm just asking a question.

Population isn't the measure to look at. Look at HS wrestlers from MA out of total high school wrestlers in the country. That would yield lower than 1.5 AA per season I imagine. I'm sure Pennsylvania and Ohio have a higher % of the overall HS population in the state that wrestles than MA.

I'd like to see those numbers. You're probably right. But I still think MA isn't producing the # of AAs they should based on # of HS wrestlers.

NE has a total population of 13M. Iowa has 3M. I wonder how many HS wrestlers each has.

I know the % of HS in MA with teams has increased but Boston in reality has 1 team for such a large population of wrestlers. The same goes for Worcester the second largest city in MA. There should be more wrestlers coming from there. Another explanation is the relatively recent growth in middle school and younger wrestking. As this grows in MA we should close the gap.

It's odd that Mt.Anthony, Lowell, Springfield Central, or Bishop Henricken did not have any or Salem NH.

Massachusetts:

John Lee 1952 4th 123 Harvard Newton MA
John Lee 1953 4th 123 Harvard Newton MA

John Lee coached at Harvard for more than 20 years. He wanted to wrestle for Michigan but couldn't get in (no fooling). He ended up at Harvard instead.
