I think a lot of people are confusing depth with talent, here. Yes, there is great top-level talent in the state and that trend is on the rise. However, is the number of teams that can actually fill a full lineup and keep kids interested in the sport increasing? I can't speak for the rest of the state, but it looks bleak in the West. I wrestled in D1W from 2006-09, less than 10 years ago, and I had to fight to keep my varsity spot due to the number of kids on the team.

I don't usually plug my own work on here, but I wrote the story on declining numbers that CoachB was speaking of, and every coach that spoke to me about it agreed with me. Check it out if you'd like [link]

This is the week to celebrate all of the great wrestlers who have made it to the All-States.....not to opine about the (real or perceived) decline in the sport in certain parts of the Commonwealth (especially on the thread "2014-15 All State Predictions"). We can discuss whatever issues are faced by wrestling at some point, but for now, let's enjoy the accomplishments and hard work of our current bunch of wrestlers.

Shrewsbury has an active youth program with Algonquin… How about a co-op with Hudson? Or Westborough?

This is a very interesting and relevant discussion but I don't think it belongs in the All State Discussion thread

Hudson started a co-op with AMSA this year. Don't know I'd they'll be coming back as a team next year or keep co-op. Now Westborough could be an interesting one. Since thru both could use programs.

Guy's I know everyone thinks everyone here is the best in the state but thats only true on day 2, there are people from D1, a good amount actually, who could wrestle awful on there standards and still finish top 6 in D3. I wonder when Miaa will change the format

You need to get more specific regarding your use of the terms "good amount" & "awful" before I can tell you whether my post was sarcastic or not.

Last I checked, if a kid wrestles "awful" and gets stuck in his first two matches, he isn't placing in the top 6.

There are multiple kids at D3 in several weight classes that would have finished better at D1

Wow...Start your own thread to talk about how great it was back in your day or how your D1 wrestler coulda shoulda done in any other division...coach him up better for next year then. How about make predictions on the brackets and the 18 wrestlers per weight class still competing in the all states tournament this year as the thread title says.

this nothing to do with my kids, i said the same the year i had State Champs, Its for all D1 top 8 guy's, 8th in d1 is a bigger acomplishment then 6th in D3, If you don't believe me ask any unbias talented wrestler they would agree. My biggiest thing is to reward the wrestlers with the bigger accomplishments. Unless your bias towards D3 you can't really have an argument.

NB135 you are either naive or delusional.. This isn't college where wrestlers are separated by skills and academics, high school divisions are based strictly on where you live..I guess Eric Reyes isn't a great wrestler to you because he's from a D3 school, or Fritz Hoehn isn't great because D2..

I am reffering to all the D1 top 8 Guy's. It should be top 8 from D1, Top 4 from D3 and Top 6 from D2. That way we see the best compete. I have seen in the past wrestlers who get top 8 in D1 but beat Allstate place winners, Its not uncommon, Reward the Athlete's not the Division that should be our goal

You can't just say an 8th at d1 is better than 6th at d3. To use this year as an example , your theory wouldn't apply at 120, 126, 132, 138, 152, just for starters

Did I mention Champs? I mentioned Depth look at 5 and 6 in d1 then 5 and 6 in most cases in d2 and every case in d3 its crazy. Thta actually helps my case that your brought up those 2 studs, they are not from a divsion 1 school but yet it that next level, What the miaa is doing is making an excuse for D3 guy's by basicaly saying cuz your school is small you have an easier road to advance. If you want to be good train year round if Reyes can then so can everybody else. as there are like a team or 2 in D3 that can compete with D1 Schools cuz of that but individuals outside of the top, its not close in depth,

NB your D1 south schools can't even field full squads with over 2500 kids to pick from this year..give it a rest, or move it to another thread.:

My Picks:

106: Morris
113: Aquino
120: Wehrig
126: Ellis
132: Ryan
138: Weir
145: Ball
152: Davey Gooddall
160: Viruet
170: Höehn
182: Humphries
195: Fuller
220: Butterbrodt
285: Shrewbury

Maybe I'll just cancel practice and the season for my 3 wrestlers because being from D-3 they probably have no chance and don't belong. Hmmmmmm.

Can't wait until next week when we are slamming all the other New England States for not being worthy.

at 120 yes they could Botello from Somerset who placed top for split with someone who did not place at all, so that ends 120 at 126 Dik did not place lol so that ends that at 126, and also Connor was beating Finley at Sectionals so yea deff.. top 6 there, now 132 I will take Woods over that Bp kid any day, and 138 is by far the toughiest weight in d3 and that one is debateable d1 8th place kid is a state finalist from last year lol so i have no clue why you posted that without any real info, and at 152 i think theres non top 8 guy's who could get 5 or 6, D1 usually has 8-10 kids talented enough to wrestle at allstates, D2 usually 4-6 and d3 in some 1 and 2 or 2-4 or maybe 5th on a rare occassion like how 138 is this year thats not the norm at all

I am saying hopefully in the future they change it but now ofcourse there worthy because it is what the rules allow for the same reason why Central should be reconized as a state champ and not Prep because it is the rules, The only people I find dissagree with me is D3 Coaches lol, I don't get it tho I have from the south but I admit all the time South can't compete with the north

I never really got into being bias.. i call it as I see it. And down south wrestling is bad point blank, I am trying to change it but right now it is but that is me being unbias. Since my team is done I will be rooting for Brockton and B-R on kap but i know how to take me being bias out.
