S-B has 89 points, Dedham has 87.5 and Wayland has 81 heading into the placement matches. I think S-B and Dedham can score a max of 22 points each and Wayland can score a max of 24 points. It will come down to the wire.

Dedham up by 1.5 points. S-B heavyweight has to win in order for them to win. It will literally be down to the last match.

I can't imagine how crazy it was towards the end. The Somerset heavyweight needed to win for them to win the tournament and he won in what double or triple OT? Unbelievable

That would have been pretty embarrassing had Dedham won though. They really only had 4 kids wrestle, they all did very well but still.

Somerset won on a stalling call in tie breaker overtime. I thought stalling was allowed in the final period as it is the top mans objective to hold down his opponent.

No one uploads video anymore on this site. I'm tempted to go to All States/New England's to film the finals and post it as I don't think video will surface otherwise. I have consulted with legal counsel I work with. It is 100% legal to videotape high school wrestling in a public place. Only permission is needed to publish video if you are profiting from it. Otherwise you have 100% right no permission necessary.

Myself and I bet a lot of other people aren't sure exactly what u mean. Are u saying Concord Carlisle won states with only a few kids wrestling?

Hanging on to the ankle as the bottom wrestler drags you across the mat is stalling.

Concord Carlisle won New Englands that year and had a dual meet record of something like 0-20. They had 2 NE Chsmps and a second. This is all from memory do its not exactly right but it's close

Stalling can absolutely be called on the offensive wrestler but it has to be blatant. Hanging on the ankle for 10 seconds may not get called but 15 or 20 seconds had better. The venue isn't relavent. Refs need to decouple tension from the activity onthe mat. The kids actions are all that matter. Can't stall to a victory - in December or February.

When the original tiebreaking criteria was installed many years back The top man was only required to maintain control, The only stalling criteria that could take place was two arms locked around two legs. I am not sure how the rule has changed when the two up-and-down periods were added

Did Froio from Cohasset just go unscored upon in the D3 state tournament?

Rule 6.7.2 "Overtime is a extension of a regular match. All points, penalties, cautions, warnings ...willcumulatethroughout the regular match and the overtime. Now add rule 7.6.6.3 it is stalling when either wrestler repeatedly grasps or interlocks around one leg of an opponent to prevent scoring

I believe the year you are referring to was 1983, Concord Carlisle placed 7th in the D II States and won the New England's with Brad Lucido 121, Mike Stalford 128 and Tom Piccirillo 157 all placing

It was the 83-84 season. CC didn't win a dual all year but won NEs. Lucido and Piccirillo won and Stalford took 2nd.

I think the idea of awarding a team championship with only 5 entered wrestlers underscores the need for a dual meet state championship. Congrats to the 5 boys who are obviously very talented but the idea that they are the best 14 man team is ludicrous.

I'm confused. There was a divisional dual meet tourney this year, right? I thought there was, and because we placed top 4 as a team at sectionals, I think we're in "it" next year? Sounds like the MOST perfect way to set this thing up ahead of time for schools to fit it into their schedule, but maybe I'm wrong about the specifics….

285 match was a great match - 7 rounds - 2 real heavy weights big strong and athletic. A great match requires 2 great wrestlers - they both fit the bill. The call was not controversial - a tip of the cap to both wrestlers

The majority of teams in D3 cannot even find a warm body at every weight class. Developing a full team is significant developing champions is a different significant achievement. They both are great. Danvers was great today with 3 champs. SB was great with the numbers of kids who made state.

Norwood was second to Concord that year. We only had two guys in the tournament, Kenny and Phipps.

Congrat's to Mike McMahon and his Somerset team, they had a great season. Congrat's also to Dedham for an awesome showing. It's too bad a controversial call ended it.
