maybe you're right about the competition here in MA at 220 vs the 170 group, a guy can only wrestle who steps on the mat. so, take it to another level - Ian a Super 32 finalist. Viruet a Super 32 champ. I don't know what Hoehn has done on a national level.

Viruet won NHSCA's, not super 32's. Fritz took 6th at NHSCA's, 7th at Super 32's, won Journeymen, and 9-1 at Disney Duals. He has many national stats.

I think the 24 man bracket would make us all happy and in that scenario. I would certainly keep the Vt 3
Don't know about the politics of the Council; I would think adding 2 more per weight would be a plus with more fees (28 wrestlers) and potentially more paying customers coming to watch the added wrestlers It also results in a cleaner bracket

Let's hope. After all they finally relented and eliminated follow the leader and went to a full double elimination

I can't find any official brackets for Vermont, but it looks like only 5 kids wrestled at 106 and 113. They should not be sending 3 kids to New Englands. That's 60% of the wrestlers in there State qualify, so MA should bring about 80 kids at those weights.

coachskp--appreciate all the hard work with the breakdown of state placewinners. any chance you could do a final "state" summary by taking the highest point scorer or placewinner from each state at each weight? in most cases, it is the 1st from that state, but variances include CT4 and MA3 at 113, NH2 at 132/138, CT3 at 145. Will email Kap and see if pts earned can be an easily added category.

Results by top scoring entrant
CT 297.5
MA 290
NH 197.5
VT 164.5
RI 127
ME 112.0
CT1 was the most dominant "team" with 13 of the 14 being the top scorer
NH and ME both benefited from the other two "teams" the most
CT1 - 13, CT2 - 0, CT3- 0, CT4 - 1
MA1 - 10, MA2 - 2, MA3 - 2
NH1 - 8, NH2 - 5, NH3 - 1
ME1 - 9, ME2 - 4, ME3 - 1
VT1 - 12, VT2 - 2
RI1 - 11, RI2 - 3

Some other observations (because this is better than working)
170 and 220 were the most diverse with 5 States placing in the top 6 and each with 5 individual State Champs placing and 1 second placer (170 CT2 was 6th and 220 MA2 was 5th)
285 was the least with 4 from MA placing and then 2 other State Champs placing (VT and CT)

In 2015 three wrestlers placed coming from the last qualifying place compared to 9 in 2014 and 1 in 2013 and 3 in 2012
CT4 - 2 - 5 - 0 - 0
NH3 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1
MA6 - 0 - 2 - 0 - 0
VT3 - 0 - 0 - 1 - 0
ME3 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 1
RI3 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 1

here is a summary of team pts scored by the "last ins" from each state (noting that this does not include champs from each state). based on number of schools and consistent scoring, justification exists for expansion to CT5 and MA7, with a potential debate of NH4 vs MA7. Without exceeding 24 per bracket, adding three could not happen. While results and number of teams/entrants per state do show that VT3 is the least likely to score, it would be unfair to exclude, unless VT went to a "true 2nd" to determine who would advance to NE (as some college conferences must do with allocations).

Yes Fritz was the most impressive wrestler in New England THIS SEASON,but career wise it's between Viruet and Butterbrodt, Butterbrodt has stats but Viruet has a lot of big names he has beaten over his career! !

I think the here-and-now is more important, is it not? Yes, Fritz is better this season... that is what matters. He took a different road than the other guys did to get to where he is, and sure maybe didn't accomplish as much in years past but he passed them and everyone else along the way. I'm excited to see how they all do once they hit the NCAA.

Who cares about who is better, Hoehn or Butterbrodt, just think these great wrestlers came out of the same youth program in N Andover, but just took different routes to their NE titles.

NA youth wrestling is terrific, but I don't think anybody would overlook another common denominator: Doughboy.
