A few years ago, they took away Dual State Tourney's and now just have a tourney champ, Why not do both? have a dual meet champ and a tourney champ, Makes no sence why they would take away the team aspect of wrestling. I remember the atmosphere in 06 when Nb faced central, the place was going nuts, Nothing brings a crowd together then two top teams wrestling

I second NB 135. Not only is there excitement but it is an opportunity for an entire team to wrestle in matches that matter

I completely agree... though it seems they've tried a number of approaches to having both a dual meet and individual tournament, and I'm guessing each one had too many complaints/opposition to keeping it.

At the end of the day, though less fan friendly, wrestling is an individual sport and coaches don't want to do anything to jeopardize their best wresters' chances at a state title and beyond.

That said... I'm not sure how official it is, but THERE ARE dual state tournaments this year on Feb 7th.... I'm guessing they just aren't recognized by MIAA.

I think they should do team sectionals, sectionals, team states, states, all states, new englands

Almost every other state has both a dual meet state champ and then it crowns individual and tourney state champs. The miaa tries to make money off their events. They couldn't make money off the team dual tourney so they bagged it. They claim they lose money on wrestling in any format. Seems that's the most important thing to our state governing body.

This Saturday you will see the most fan friendly version of wrestling. Team duals are the way to go. Wrestling is as much a team sport as any other. Nobody ever became a state champ by themselves. They need a partner to drill with.

Locations & times of these team duals? Can anyone provide some info?

Thanks

The Wayland HS Athletics schedule page shows a start time of 9a on Sat Feb 7 for the Div3 tournament.
http://schedules.schedulestar.com/Wayland-High-School-Wayland-MA/season/02-05-2015/Boys/Varsity/Wrestling/

The first post in this thread (dated Tue Jan 27) lists teams--no idea how up-to-date it is.

I'm told the Final D3 Brackets will be determined after the Norton Hopkinton match tonight.

Also Cohasset stepped down in Div 3 to allow for 16 teams

D3 bracket almost set, we just need the results of the Hopkinton-Norton match to determine 3rd 4th or 5th seed.

Here's a TOTALLY just for fun, speculative D3 bracket based on the Jan 27 rankings and the recent Wayland result against S-B. I only seeded teams 1-10, leaving the remainder as TBD as I have zero knowledge of how they'd stack up against one another.

Winchester and North Andover are set to face each other in the first round?!?!?!!??
I know North Andover is not as good as they have been in the past few years but still.

That does seem odd given that North Andover is ranked 6th among Div2 teams in the Feb 3 ranking.

Winchester has opted to save their starters for the individual postseason, thus dropping their seed.

Agreed the team duals are beyond exciting. Tonight Wakefield and Melrose square off for ML Freedom title. Neither school is a powerhouse - but last year's end of season dual was as exciting as the recent SB win (some hyperboly). Match was decided at 285 - both 285's were on their back multiple times - but somehow escaped. In the end the Wakefiled wrestler pulled off the walkoff win (I think Wakefield was down 29 points - and pinned out final 5 matches to win). Division level duals with the top teams - is as good as it gets - as all teamamtes play a role -whether as varsity starters or practice contributors over the full season
