CARL'S CINDERELLA'S

After extensive study of film and research at tournaments across New England throughout this season here are a few wrestlers who I could see placing and even winning this outstanding and difficult tournament.

106-VT 3 Nate Gebo (Middlebury)

113- ME 2 Bradley Beaulieu (Marshwood)

120- NH 1 Tyler Fitzpatrick (Timberlane) A difficult weight class but this kid is tough, and I think he has shown that he can hang with the best all season

126- NH 2 Cam Bennett (Nashua North)

132- CT 4 James Leuci (Newtown)

138- ME 3 Colin Sevigney (Wells) I think he’ll get on a roll if he beats Peters the momentum will push him past favorite Monserrat from Methuen MA, from there it would be a cakewalk into the finals

145- NH 2 Dan Lawrence (Concord)

152- RI 2 Emmanuel Borsay (Hope) Another tough weight class, if he can get past Viruet, he lost to LaBrie in the RI state finals, and rarely do lose twice to the same person

160- MA 3 Ben Spicer (Wakefield High School)

170- MA 4 Jastice Bolden (Springfield Central High ) One of few MA 4’s that could do a lot of damage

182- RI 3 John Perroni (Mt. Hope)

195- VT 2 Kienan Kittredge (Champlain Valley)

220- VT 3 Xavier Giddings (St. Johnsbury) He’s going to have a tough match against Butterbrodt in his second match, but he has looked strong on his feet all season and that is where Butterbrodt has been weak all season. If he can avoid the cheap tilts on bottom he might be able to squeak out a win.

285- CT 4 Nicholas Crowle (Fairfield Prep) You never know with heavyweights but Crowle has been willing to get down and dirty all year. He didn’t look his best at the CT state tournament but I think he has a serious chance to place at New England’s

I like "Carls Cinderella" picks! If one of these happens (other than Beaulieu who I believe has a legitimate shot), it truly will be a Cinderalla Story. Nice write-up.

The key thing is Carl's pick say could see placing ( and even winning.) I'm in agreement with him that many of this kids are very talented wrestlers and have a great shot at placing.

Ma7 is already in. Was replaced the night of all states. Ma8 doesn't get in because they missed the deadline.

It is such crap they didn't let Mike Wagner MA8 in he was there ready to go. Why let a bracket go unfilled when the next kid inline is there willing to wrestle and weigh in? It is no ones fault that Bolden bailed out so late, but to not fill the spot because of a deadline seems stupid. Just my opinion, but why not??

Ryan Monteiro majored Bryant in the second round. Pretty impressive for a freshman.

Just checked out the action on Track. What happened to Umarov 182 (W. Springfield)? Saw him at the beginning of the season and again at All-States and he looked to be gaining momentum. Placed 4th at All-States, but did not wrestle at NE's

Vt-3. Does not deserve to be in new England's not one placed 11 of them went 0-2. Only four wins between them all and the 138 pounder got two of those four.

I'd also like to know if the wrestling is being streamed online. For the MA All-States, it was on NFHS Network, but I don't see this tournament there.

So, compared with other all-time greats in NE, how great was Monserrat's career? 1 loss as a freshman, in the NE final. 1 loss as a sophomore, in the NE final. And 2 NE championships. Impressed.

A 212-2 career record. That's a .991 winning percentage. Incredible.
