More proof & evidence that wrestling helps football players performance on the gridiron field.

Here's a YouTube "Season Highlights" video that was sent to me from a father I got to know while I was out at the University of Iowa's Intensive Wrestling Camps. It is a Senior mid-season highlights video of Forrest Christmann of Slippery Rock High School in Pennsylvania. [link]

Forrest Christmann #52
OL / DL
- 6'3" 251Lbs.
- District 10 All-Star Football Team (2011)
- Butler Eagle All-Star Football Team (2011)
- 40 yd: 4.80 (PSU Camp 2011)

- NHSCA All-American (Wrestling 2010, 2011)
- District 10 All-Star Wrestling Team (2011. 2012)
- Wrestling USA Magazine: "One of the Nations's Best Wrestlers" 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13).

*Check out this YouTube Video of Forrest Christmann from Slippery Rock, PA. Christmann has been a devote Iowa Wrestling Camp participant for the past 4 years. I got to know this kid personally. He is an absolute Animal on the Mat & the Gridiron. I saw him gain weight & muscle from being at 189 four years ago to where he's at now: 251lbs. *He Wrestles, Lifts Weights, & PLays Football*! The point & message is clear: [link]

Welcome to the NFL: Mark Schlereth played 12 NFL seasons & won three Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos & Washington Redskins. But he says his toughest athletic challenge--that prepared him for his successful pro football career--was as a high school wrestler, where he was a state champion at Anchorage, Alaska's Robert Service H.S. "Physically, it's the most challenging sport I've ever been involved with & from a pure mental toughness standpoint, nothing beats wrestling," says Schlereth, now a popular NFL analyst with ESPN. "If you look around the league, it's uncanny how many players have wrestling backgrounds."

There is no disputing that wrestling makes you a better football player! Believe it or not, most football coaches agree...however it is only from a lineman prospective. Imagine a defense DTs, DEs, NGs, LBs, and DBs fully comprised of wrestlers?! We could flood non-wrestling football coaches with all the examples and literature we want, fact remains they only see weight limits and weight loss. Hell, we complain about how much wrestling suffers from the football mentality...what about track? We need more head football coaches who have wrestling backgrounds!

Football could benefit from wrestling in a lot of ways, especially in the area of fitness. There are too many football players that are not within a healthy body fat range. Coaches that just push size or on the other side with wrestling, having the kids cut too much weight, are really affecting the health and safety of the kids both long and short term. That's pretty selfish in my opinion. The sad part is that we have this information available to us and we still have kids who are doing this. It's happening and there is no denying it and , yes, it's happening in New England. Eating disorders are on a rise and not just anorexia and bulimia. Disordered eating is a problem.
