Anyone who will be attending the University of Rhode Island next year and is interested in participating on the Wrestling Team please let me know. The team competes throughout New England and the Mid Atlantic as well as wrestling various duals. Unfortunately due to lack of interest and poor funding the team is on the verge of being dropped. I have one week to get a list of names together of possible wrestlers before the University votes on whether to drop the team or not. So if you are going to be attending URI or know any other wrestlers who are provide me with names and a good way to get in touch with you. Lets keep the team alive.

My Email is -email-.

Thanks

Until that &%$#@* University brings back a Varsity program they will not get a nickel from me. Instead of giving out the scholarship money that they do in Football and Basketball they could reduce it to help other programs stay involved. The lazy a** Athletic Director was given a name (Lee Spiegal) who was a All-American D-1 wrestler for Hall of Fame consideration. The lazy jerk did nothing. Basketball is usually pretty good but Football should probably go Division 3 because they just can't seem to have the success needed for a 1-AA program. I wish you luck in getting people to sign up but it takes a committment from the kids and the University to make this go. It was once a very proud program and very successful, gaining top 20 rankings as a dual meet team.

Jim,
The pennies that they give must be needed for coffee and donuts for their 15 football coaches. It always pissed me off on the wasye that occurred at URI. I didn't have a problem with the Football players as a whole, but there were some on scholarships that were a waste. No dedication and bad work ethic. The problem with wrestling is that it is easy to pick on. You never see HS wrestling on ESPN but you see Poker Tournaments and Bowling up the ying yang. Those Poker guys with their attire and their "Game Faces" sure make us quivver . And some of those Bowlers look like the strolled in after eating a Seafood Platter at the No Name Rest. and then ordering another to go with their 30 pack of Bud-Light.

If they keep the club on they will also require us to come up with about $5,500 that is "owed". We plan to do this in the form of a golf tournament. So if anyone may be interested in golfing let me know and I will keep you posted

We Still need more names! The team will be cut on Feb 3 if I can't show that there is an interest in this team.
