The Kapwrestling was awesome, the staff organized the tournament perfectly. We were done by 11:40 am and the kids wrestled 1:30 periods and on full mats, the atmosphere was relaxing and fun, Thank you to Chelmsford and anyone that made today happen. |

I agree. Nashoba did a great job. I also think there was excellent sportsmanship on the part of all these kids. Some of them, even if they were from different teams, know each other from prior matches. They cheered each other on. The post match handshakes were genuine for the most part. There were some really good matches between talented kids. The ref at our mat was excellent. He took the time to explain stuff to the kids. After what I saw today, I like the direction wrestling is going in the state on many levels. |

Didn't know kids could wrestle up into another age group for a state event.. thought it was one or another...and no these kids didn't beat out kids from my club at the K-4 event..so not a bitter coach or anything.. just confused on how this is possible, since it's first year dealing with MA States

Great question. We tried to get some of our more experienced kids who are 3rd/4th graders into the Section and were turned away as they had not been born in 1999 or later (one was born 1/13/00 and was told 'no'). Can you give any examples as we were told it was carved in stone that no exceptions would be made. If you wrestle grades 3/4 you shouldn't be able to wrestle grades 5/6. Either or, not both. |

Obviously too late now, since niether of the kids from my club who took 1st in the K-4 States, entered the South sectionals..but if I knew it was an option I would have put them in the South Sectionals to see how well they stacked up against the older kids. Like I said..it's a first for me dealing with MA States as the club director and just trying to understand what options are out there for the kids in my club

Since we did not require proof of birth at the registration for the three Sectional tournaments, it is possible that some underage kids participated.
If they were born in 2000, they are ineligible for the Sectional Youth and Mass Youth State Tournaments. |
