WHERE: Tyngsborough High School, 36 Norris Road, Tyngsborough, MA 01879.

WHEN: Saturday, January 30, 2010

AGES: Must have been born ON OR AFTER SEPTEMBER 1, 1999. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Because it is more easily understood, we have labeled the divisions as K-2 and Grades 3-4. HOWEVER, this tournament is age based, modeled after the natural school years. Note that this differs somewhat from many of the tournaments. Most notably, September –December 1999 birthdays are eligible to wrestle in this tournament.

ELIGIBILITY: Must be either a Massachusetts resident or a fulltime member of a Massachusetts city or town wrestling program.

TWO (2) AGE DIVISIONS:

K-2 ROUND ROBIN DIVISION: Born on or after September 1, 2001. Format will be a 4 man round robin tournament. *We do our best to separate all kindergarten age wrestlers from 2nd grader aged wrestlers.

GRADE 3-4 STATE TOURNAMENT: Born between September 1, 1999 and August 31, 2001. Format will be 8 Man Brackets grouped by weight (no preset weight classes).
BUMPING OPTION. 2nd Grade Wrestlers who are born in 2001 will have the option of bumping to the Grade 3-4 division. You must let us know AT WEIGH INS or the wrestler will be bracketed strictly by age.

FEES: $15 per wrestler payable at time of weigh in. Must pay before weighing in. If coaches are paying for a group, the coach needs to be with the group at weigh-ins.

$4 fee for spectators over the age of 18.

WEIGH-INS – ONSITE THE DAY OF TOURNEY ONLY (no exceptions):

K-2 DIVISION: 7:30-8:30 Registration and Weigh-in.

GRADE 3-4 DIVISION: 7:30-9:30 Registration and Weigh-in.

WRESTLING TIMES:

K-2: Wrestling to begin at 10:00AM. We will wrestle the full K-2 Division on 8 mat surfaces until conclusion. We should be finished the K-2 division within an hour and a half from start time.

GRADE 3-4: Wrestling to begin at 12:00. We will wrestler on 8 mat surfaces until conclusion. Expect to be finished by 3:00, depending on numbers of course.

MEDALS: All K-4 will receive medals, top 3 in the Grade 3-4 state tournament will receive medals.

Jim,
I understand the details are still being worked on, just wanted to know if anything has been decided on as far as the weights go. Is it all Madison weights, or only madison for the K-2 ranges and 5 pound increments for the 3-4 graders to prepare for the next stage? Have never had any of our youths in the MA states before, just used to RIWA and they do the 5 pound increments to keep similiar to the older kids. (i.e. a kid weighing 60.1 - 65 pounds is in the 65 pound bracket, etc). Thanks.

K-2 will be a 4 man round robin tournament.

Grade 3-4 will consist of 8 man brackets. Weight classes will not be set in advanced, but rather, kids will be grouped by weight.

GRADE 3-4 START TIME MOVED UP TO 11:30.
Not that, although there is a lag between the weigh ins and Grades 3-4 start time, we will have run the K-2 group through completely so that when Grades 3-4 start, that's it. It is just Grades 3-4. Whereas it is only K-4, by still running in flights, we are trying to create a less chaotic atmosphere and hopefully make the day more enjoyable for everyone.

Please make checks payable to either:

Tyngsborough Youth Wrestling
or
Wrestlers Incorporated

but not MYWA. This is not a MYWA event.

Thank you to all of the teams that attended the tournament today in Tyngsborough.
Turnout was better than anticipated with over 400 K-4 wrestlers attending.

As we indicated during the tournament, we will be tabulating the team points on Sunday. There is a team trophy for the top three teams in the Grades 3-4 division. We will hand out the trophies at the 5-8 State Tournament in Chelmsford (if we don't see you earlier at sectionals). Once we add up the points on Sunday, we will post here and on the MYWA site.
Points will be awarded as follows for the top 4 places:
1st place: 8 points
2nd place: *6 points
3rd place: *4 points
4th place: 2 points
*If the 3rd place finisher is from the 1st place finishers side of the bracket, then both 2nd and 3rd place will score 5 team points.
The top 12 place finishers on each team will score points.
Brackets will be posted online on Sunday. We will post them on the MYWA site and will add a link here on MassWrestling under this thread.
Thank you to all of the visiting coaches and wrestlers for your help and cooperation.

As mentioned at the tournament, we will be posting the final brackets on MYWA. First, we need help with the results of a few finals matches that were not saved in our system. If coaches from either team can let us know the results of the following matches, we can complete and post the final brackets:

58 pounds
Consolation final between Ruddy Paulino (Fitchburg) v. Jake Garland (Tewksbury)

82 pounds
Final match between Joey Perkins (Triton) v. Matthew Nabewski (Wrentham)
Consolation final between Jack Hayes (Woburn) v. Mason St. Pierre (Westfield)

86 pounds
Final match between Dan O’Connell (Methuen) v. Greg Scott (North Andover)

aww..if I had known there was a team points thing I would have brought more than 3 kids..lol. Just kidding, the drive would have been a lil much for the parents. Maybe next year will try to bring the majority of the club.

I wanted to say, that although the 3-4 divison got started behind schedule, the tournament ran really well once it got going. I thought the rotating mats between rounds was going to be an issue, as not being used to it, but it did seem to keep the tournament moving along nicely. because the PA system was nice and clear..and very easy to understand the announcer..Good announcing voice. The refs also did a nice job of officiating and keeping the mats clear. My only suggestion would be to have mat tape down for starting positions, so the kids are sure where to go back to between periods, after going out of bounds, etc... But You guys did a great job.!! THanks for Hosting.

Was there anyone selling MA State Champ shirts? both of my kids that took gold were some of the last matches, and we all headed out for the long commute back home without looking for it...

I apologize for the delay with the brackets. We should have them up Wednesday night.
Unfortunately, we did not have tshirts - we'll have them next year.
Once change for next year is we will be able to call the weight classes to mats in order. We goofed a little in the way that we spread the weights among four computers.
Also, we did not anticipate the turnout. Assuming we host this next year, we will set more time for the K-2; make the start time for the 3-4 group later and allow the 3-4 group to weigh in a little later as well.
Mike - thanks for the kind words and we'll look for the whole Somerset squad next year!

Jim et al,
thanks for posting and linking on MYWA. We appreciate all the work you've done on behalf of the little guys, knowing how much time you're already dedicating to the Jr Hi sectionals this week.
