I think having the team divisional state finals at marlboro hs is kind of weak. Most other sports get a nice venue for state finals, whether it be a college or professional arena. Might just be my opinion but i think having state finals be in a high school gym pretty weak considering teams work all year to make it to state finals

I've been to the dual meet finals in previous years and the gyms haven't been anywhere near full enough with fans to warrant a bigger/"nicer" venue. Wrestling simply doesn't have the fan draw those other sports might have to require a big venue.

i agree but i think they should atleast change the venue every year it seems like its at Marlboro HS every year

6PM start time is ridiculous, I thought the dual meet tourney was to promote our sport and make it more fan friendly? Start them at 7 or 7:30 most parents and fans work till 5PM

It's actually about the kids wrestling. If it is at 7 the opposing teams won't get home til midnight(Spfld, Triton). If they were closer, I'm sure we would have a 7 PM start time.

Stop complaining about the MIAA and do something about it. Call your HS Principal, AD or State Rep if you are upset with the MIAA prices, scheduled times or etc. But complaining on here will do nothing to make changes.

We are scheduled for a 5:00 match at Wayland on Wednesday. Thursday is a tentative make-up with snow in the forecast, however if we get cancelled tommorrow I will either forfeit, or if I'm made to go, I will bring a skeleton crew as we have a 2 day Sectional starting on Friday. I hope that we can do it tommorrow. My thought is that this should be done on Tuesday of vacation week with the State Semis and Finals run as a double dual. It would be great and I would love it as a fan. The prices, I believe, are a little steep. But wrestling has been gradually moving away from its "blue collar" identity with $20.00 dollar entry fees and so forth and so on. The events are great but they can get very costly. I still remember my $2.00 AAU card and $1.00 entry fee. Those days are long gone.

Cost and price are different things. The cost of wrestling events themselves hasn't changed or become "less blue collar", it just feels that way (if you're blue collar) as the price has gone up.

Average take home wages for working class Americans have gone down over the last 30-40 years if you factor out inflation. This is due to global competition, a greater share of the wealth going to the top earners, and the ever increasing cost of health care. Taxes haven't gone down for working class people over that period much. However, a lot of consumable goods have gotten cheaper, like cars, refrigerators, and TVs, so working class Americans can afford many things on less income that they couldn't in the past. But - the cost of things that can't be made cheaply in Asia - like wrestling events, hasn't gone down.

So due to the factors I listed above, the price might feel more expensive than you might remember, but the cost of wrestling events likely hasn't changed much. A lot of things have become less affordable to blue-collar earners, even if the actual cost of those things hasn't changed much.

Making excuses for losing a match you haven't wrestled yet is a surefire way to never be a champion.

The cost of the average tourney:
Mats $1000
Help $2000
Gym $3000

The cost of Ray wisdom:

Well yeah Coach - I mean horsehair padding was free and all ya had to do was throw an old canvas sail over the mess and reffing was easy when the one rule was "whoever calls "Uncle" first is loser...$2 for the AAU card seems a little steep though...Come to think of it the AAU guys were always drivin around in new cars...

On a more serious note:
The top 20% of wage earners in the USA, "own" 85% of total wealth earned in the USA.
That comes from Duke Univeristy Behavioral Economics Dept.

Yeah and there are ample studies to cite that Americans always think that they are in a higher economic bracket than they are really in - so that leaves 80% of us scrapping for 15 percent of the wealth scraps left over
For me that puts executive pay and the growing power of the Health Insurance lobbies in an even worse light....

Venting, opens up a dialogue to see if everyone else agrees with your viewpoint. It tests the climate of peoples opinions. If you get an overwhelming response in your favor then you know its not just you being a curmudgeon, and then thats where you confront the MIAA. A forum is defined as a public meeting place for open discussion. I believe venting is healthy for forums. So Jimmy baby i respectfully disagree.

Eoghan,

How much does this top 20% of wage earners in the USA, who "own" 85% of total wealth earned in the USA, pay in taxes......? That's right more than 85% of the total taxes as well. Actually the numbers are more like the top 5% pay 50% of all taxes, the top 10% pay 65%, the top 50% pay 96% of the total taxes. It all balances out to some extent, except for those of us that are truly middle class.

I'm all for horsehair mats, shorts and tank tops.

You must be hanging out with McClure and the other Chelmsford Dems Those top earners also pay over 80% of the taxes and our Corp. Tax is almost 40%, only two other 1st World Countries have a higher Corps Tax and that is part of the reason jobs and Corp HQs are moving out of the country. You and Atlas must have voted for Coakley!
