Lots of towns in MA have just upped the user fees slightly to continue all sports. Why can't NH do the same thing?

Don't laugh. In New York there were places that you had to pay to use the toilet. Coin operated.

I say Texas should be allowed to secede (it's really just north Mexico anyways) - and that's not going to happen either.

It's bad enough that it happens but you don't have to bend over and grab your ankles because it's the popular thing to do. It's a slippery slope that keeps on getting worse. Users fees eliminate kids no matter what the ADs or other administrators tell you. Mt. Greylock used to dress 45-50 kids in Football. We are lucky if we will dress 25. We have lost kids in wrestling, basketball, boys track and field , and other activities. It's not the answer and I can say that with the experience of 34 years in education. Overall, education is way underfunded in comparison to other programs unless , of course, you are in Special Ed.

Deuce,

Nobody said that anything was "a problem" with special ed, just that it gets funded better than any other educational programs which is true. Why did you ask your question the way that you did?

I live in a community where we have 7 different towns that go to the same school system, and in our system the money is with special ed, so I'm just calling it as I see it locally. I have the school budget numbers in front of me right now. We have one kid that is enrolled in a sp-ed program that is full here in the local school district so we HAVE to bus this one child 40 miles in each direction at a cost of almost 150k a year. This is just one example, but when looking at teacher:student ratios, and assistants, etc, special modifications, etc the cost per student is much higher and government protected.

So in this community that statement is true. And again, nobody is saying this is wrong or a "problem" it's just the way it is.
