Here is one to start:

"Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even."
-- Muhammad Ali (b. 1942), [Cassius Clay] American prizefighter

After emotion subsides...failure can be such a great teacher.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

your biggest challenge isnt someone else. its the ache in your lungs and the burning in you legs and the voice inside you that yells "can't", but you dont listen. you push harder. and then you hear the voice whisper "can" and you discover that the person you thought you were is no match for the one you really are.

It is better to be silent and thought to be an idiot than to open your yap and remove all doubt.

103rocket had a variation of what Nate Carr always says. Nate’s quote is “Wrestle the man not the uniform.”

Here’s one I’m surprised no one has mentioned yet

Very nice Joe 180 - I have long seen wrestling as much more of: man vs. himself than a man vs. man challenge

People don't wrestle because its fun. Ask any wrestler, most of them hate it, but they couldn’t imagine their life without it. Its part of them. the Hate/love relationship. Its what they live for. They live for the minute when weigh-ins start, the good hardy meal that they eat after the tournament as a team, and the bus ride home with a full stomach and a medal that shows they did well that day. Gut drills, sprints, and hours of technique and live wrestling are all things that helped lead up to that day. The dedication and the discipline that most people don’t see is what makes it the hardest, but is the most rewarding. The special bond that a wrestler has with his coach is not like any other sport. He is his drill sergeant, his nutritionist, and aid along side the mat. They live for the way it feels when they come out on the mat as the underdog and come out on top in the end. You now know those miles you ran everyday after practice were worth it. They live for the way you become a family with your team, they live for the countless songs you sing in your head before your match. They live for the competition, the challenge, the memories, and the pain, its who they are. It's who we are. It's who I am

WRESTLERS,are the strongest fastest&smartest athletes in the world. They are the MOST dedicated. They sacrifice their lives 2 a sport of fighting. They give up their social lives. They cant party&get drunk because making weight on Saturday wont allow it(even though some are stupid enough to still do it). They cant go smoke after school cause they worked 2 hard 2 get in2 shape. They have no team out on the mat w/ them 2 help get past an opponent. They stand on a mat w/ all eyes on them,alone,no1 2 fall back on when they make a mistake,no safety 2 make the tackle,& no goalie 2 make a diving save. They are the leanest meanest&strongest in the world.this is 2 all those who sacrifice everything, their free time, their food,& most importantly their life. Why would someone work so hard, til they are puking in practice, sweating in their 3 layers&sauna suit or skipping that party?Or why would they induce the blood sweat&tears?Or the early morning runs,or mid day workouts or the extra run after practice 2 lose that last pound 2 make weight. The road in wrestling always ends in tears. The man that takes second cries cause his dreams are over,&the man that wins it all cries more than anybody because finally everything that they have maintained is finally worthwhile.Wrestlers will wrestle through anything.Wrestlers dont do wrestling cause they like it, you would be crazy 2 like to beat yourself up on a daily basis,& get beaten up by teammates&opponents just as much.Yet there are the few who love it,they do it cause they were born 2.There is no future in wrestling,no pro league,no million dollar contract.Just a smelly practice room & a dream 2 be great.Wrestling is not a sport, its a lifestyle.

The on thing to fear is fear itself
