Many thanks to the Friends of Reading Wrestling and RCTV for their volunteered time and efforts to put together this fantastic production of the All State finals video for the MassWrestling community.

Edit: hello national viewers from TheMatForums - as fans we're all very aware and have talked our heads off about the reffing this year.

So was I correct in saying that DeCarlo was the first AS champ for Lexington?

I can understand the bad call in Flannery's match because, even though I don't agree with the ref's decision, Flannery did have the western hook in, which usually constitutes a takedown. But giving Harding 2 pts at 152 is just ridiculous. Donohoe was clearly on two feet, and the criteria for a takedown (at least relevant to this call) would be that he had THREE POINTS of contact with the mat (two feet and a knee, two feet and a hand, etc). There were clearly TWO POINT of contact, both of Donohoe's feet, and certainly no control before he reached back and threw Harding, which would have won him the match. A great battle on both sides; no on is at fault but the referees.

Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.

I believe someone should right a letter to miaa for them to change the last OT rule. After waching the last ride outs i do not think it is fair to end a match having it come down to basically a coin flip. The last OT Should be sudden death first take down wins. No time just take down wins it.. They both have to wrestle No one can just throw in legs and ride the person out. Just something to think about.

Well keep in mind that's why they put in the 2 30 second tiebreakers in a few years ago...to make it more equitable and give both guys a shot.

Just imagine a heavy weight bout that has gone 1-1 in regulation going into a no time limit sudden death over time. 20 minute fat kid cuddle-fest... that is exactly what will attract more fans to wrestling.

Max,
Be careful what you say about heavyweights. I have watched a number of light and middle weights that shuffle and hand fake with nothing else happening. Did you see the All-State finalists? There was probably as much, if not more, action in that match than any of the others.

Thats true, but in general heavy weight matches are less eventful because people that big are simply not meant to be able to go hard for 6 (let alone the 8 it takes to get to the proposed infinite time sudden death) minutes. When was the last time you saw a 250 pound olympic distance runner?

In any event I would like to add

As a Massachusetts wrestling fan, i can honestly say the all state ref job (not mentioning any names) is embarassing to watch. Matt Donohoe for All State OW!
