My name is Aaron Polansky. I currently serve as the Director of MA USA Wrestling. Our organization serves as an extension of the national organization located at Olympic headquarters in Colorado Springs, CO. We are responsible for the promotion and development of amateur wrestling here in Massachusetts. I have put together some information that may help you in your effort to assist us with the publicizing of the MA USA Wrestling Stance in Motion $10,000 Scholarship presentation to the Boston Neighborhood Wrestling League.

MA USA Wrestling will be presenting our first annual $10,000 Stance in Motion Scholarship at the first annual Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Dual Meet State Tournament Finals at Hudson High School on the afternoon of March 11th. The award is being presented to the Boston Center for Youth and Families to support the introduction of their Boston Neighborhood Wrestling Program. The Boston Center for Youth and Families was selected from a pool of over 15 applicants who applied for the Stance in Motion Scholarship in the inaugural 2005 year. Dollamur Mat Surfaces and World Wide Sport Supply have both signed on as title sponsors of this initiative. Dollamur Mat Surfaces will be providing the Boston Neighborhood Wrestling League with a brand new wrestling mat while World Wide Sport Supply will be outfitting the more than 100 inner city youth wrestlers participating in this league with uniforms and headgear.

For the past three years Massachusetts USA Wrestling has been working diligently to create a strong financial base in order to support the development of amateur wrestling in the state of Massachusetts. Through the implementation of our IRONMAN Tournament Series, our Coaches Education Programs, our Spring and Summer Tournament schedule and several other wrestling based initiatives, we have raised the finances to support the implementation of a full wrestling program on an annual basis. The 2006 USA Wrestling season will mark the first year of our Stance in Motion Program where the Boston Center for Youth and Families will receive in excess of $10,000 in supplies and scholarship money to support the implementation of their Boston Neighborhood Wrestling Program. We look forward to presenting this award to a new recipient annually, as long as fundraisers such as our IRONMAN Tournament (May 19-21, 2006 at Hudson HS) and our USA Wrestling Golf Tournament (May 22, 2006 at Hopkinton Country Club) continue to generate a financial base to work from.

The Massachusetts USA Wrestling Board of Directors has taken a strong stance on the importance of our grass roots programs. We are so proud to be sponsoring the Stance in Motion program, which will increase opportunities for Massachusetts youth wrestlers and coaches. The Stance in Motion Scholarship is available through an application process where interested organizations may apply for a Stance in Motion starter package to help put their new programs in motion. Groups interested in contributing to, or applying for, the Stance in Motion Scholarship may contact Aaron Polansky at 197 Flint Road, Charlton, MA 01507.

Our 2006 recipient, the Boston Neighborhood Wrestling Program, will serve approximately 100 wrestlers, ages 10-14. The Boston Recreation Department will facilitate three Boston Community Center sites: W. Roxbury High School Community Center (West Roxbury), Tobin Community Center (Mission Hill), and the "L" Street Community Center (South Boston). Boston University Head Wrestling Coach Carl Adams will host the fourth site. There will be approximately 25 youth participating at each of the four sites. Each site will offer wrestling twice a week beginning in Mid-March and running to the end of April. Each practice session will last approximately 90 minutes in length and generally begin around 4 p.m or 5 p.m. A tournament is planned for program participants at the end of the program. A site for the tournament has not been determined at this time. Boston Recreation is currently not looking to charge participants a fee to participate in this program. Garin Veris (former member of the New England Patriots) is the individual who applied for the scholarship on behalf of the Boston Centers for Youth and Families. He is the Director of Recreation for the City of Boston.

MA USA Wrestling extends a special thank you to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association for allowing our organization to present this award at a venue that will be highly visible to the amateur wrestling community. The partnering efforts of the MIAA have helped to strengthen the credibility of this initiative and will provide recipients of this award the opportunity to observe amateur wrestling at the championship level during the conclusion of the 2006 Interscholastic Wrestling Season. Massachusetts USA Wrestling extends our congratulations to all of the student-athletes who participated in Massachusetts Interscholastic Wrestling this 2005-2006 season.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions regarding this scholarship program.

Aaron L. Polansky
