Sad news

NORWOOD -- Michael Patrick Mahoney, 31, of Norwood, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, in Norwood.

Born in Norwood, the son of Gerald Francis Mahoney Sr. and Diane (Dima) Mahoney of Norwood, he was a graduate of Norwood High School and had attended the University of Massachusetts in Boston.

Mr. Mahoney was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a wrestling coach at Norwood High School for 11 years, a member of the Norwood Elks and a member and laborer of Local 103.

Besides his parents, he leaves two sisters, Lisa Jenks and her husband, Charles, of Norwood, and Patricia Crawford of Norwood, and two brothers, Gerald Mahoney Jr. of Norton, and James Mahoney and his wife, Allison, of Norwood; and nine nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held Monday, Feb. 27, at 8 a.m., from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. (Rte. 1A), Norwood, followed by a Mass at 9 a.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Norwood.

Visiting Hours will be held Sunday, Feb. 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

A scholarship fund in Mr. Mahoney’s memory is currently being established.

Does anyone know what happened. Mike was a real good guy. He had alot of passion for Norwood wrestling.

This is horribly sad news. Mike was a very nice guy and passionate coach. He was a tough and accomplished competitor, as well. The Norwood Wrestling program and many wrestlers were lucky to have him in their room.
Deepest sympathies and prayers to his family and the Norwood community.

Mike was my Uncle. He's the one who got me into wrestling.

My other Uncles are setting up the scholarship in his name, for a Senior who wrestling at Norwood High. Right now they are still going through the planning stages.

I'll keep you guys updated when I can.
